Early Years and Reception at Southeastern Academy

The most important goal for our Early Years and Reception department is to attribute students with a strong command in reading before Year 1. We achieve this mainly using the Montessori Method of teaching. Numeracy is also formed in these early years. The department consists of five classes. Crèche, Marigold A (Nursery 1), Marigold B (Nursery 2), Reception A (KG1) and Reception B (KG2). In the Early Years and Reception department, we use the Pearson Edexcel system in conjunction with the Montessori Method of teaching.

The Elementary/iprimary system at Southeastern

Elementary (iprimary) students at Southeastern Academy enjoy a unique blend of Pearson Edexcel international curriculum and the Ghana Educational Service curriculum. Core subjects like Math, English Language and more are based on the UK-based international Pearson Edexcel
system. Subjects like Ghanaian Language and Ghanaian History are based on the Ghana Educational Service curriculum. This system prepares students for whichever of the two educational systems they choose to continue with after Year 6.

The Secondary Systems at Southeastern

As your ward is completing Year 6, they would have to make a decision as to which curriculum they will be doing in the next level of their studies. The merging of systems (Pearson Edexcel and GES) only applies to the iprimary department.

Students who choose to continue with the Pearson Edexcel system will be promoted to Year 7 in the ilower secondary department (Year 7-9) and will begin their journey towards the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) which they will sit at the end of Year 11.

Students who choose to do the Ghana Education Service system after Year 6 will continue with Junior High School. They will be promoted to Junior High School 1 where they would begin their journey to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination at the end of Junior High School 3.
